Lawrie went 3 for 5 with two doubles and an RBI in Tuesday's 10-6 win over San Francisco.

Lawrie raised his average 21 points to .200. Hopefully Tuesday's effort is a sign of things to come.

Lawrie went 2 for 4 with a homer in Thursday's 5-3 loss to the Yankees.

Lawrie is batting .167 in 10 games.

The Blue Jays are experimenting with playing Lawrie at second base as a way to deal with an ankle injury that will keep Jose Reyes out until the All-Star break.

Toronto general manager Alex Anthopoulos said Sunday that Lawrie, on a rehab assignment with Class-A Dunedin, will play at second base the next few games to see whether it works out. Lawrie has played most of his career at third base, though he did play some second base when he was coming up through the Milwaukee Brewers' farm system.

Lawrie made went 0 for 3 with an RBI in his season debut after being activated off the 15-day disabled list.

Lawrie had been sidelined since early March with a strained left ribcage muscle suffered at the World Baseball Classic.

Lawrie is off Canada's roster because of a rib injury, one day before the team's first game at the World Baseball Classic.

The Toronto Blue Jays third baseman felt discomfort in his left side during an exhibition game against the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday and came out of the game. Blue Jays general manager Alex Anthopoulos says the team expected Lawrie to be out 2 or 3 weeks "on the conservative side" and could be ready for opening day. A right oblique injury cost Lawrie two months with Toronto last season.
