Grimm gave up five earned runs on eight hits in five innings after entering the game with a total of six earned runs allowed this year. The right-hander struck out seven and walked three.
Grimm (2-0) and Nick Tepesch have been solid since Texas lost Colby Lewis to right elbow surgery and Matt Harrison was sidelined by an inflamed nerve in his lower back. The two have combined to go 4-1 with a 2.11 ERA this season.
The Rangers made the move Thursday with Grimm getting the start against Seattle in the series opener. Grimm takes the spot of Matt Harrison, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list with an inflamed nerve in his lower back. The Harrison move was retroactive to last Sunday.
