The Cincinnati Reds have activated Cueto from the 15-day disabled list and optioned righty Pedro Villareal to Triple-A Louisville.

Cueto takes a 3-0 record into Sunday's start against Milwaukee, his first since a 6-0 win at Pittsburgh on May 31. He was placed on the DL on June 5 for the second time this season, on both occasions with a strained muscle in his right shoulder.

Cueto allowed one hit over eight dominant innings and the Cincinnati Reds beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 6-0 on Friday night.

Cueto struck out six and walked one while improving to 3-0 this season and 13-4 all-time against Pittsburgh.

Cueto pitched seven innings and drew support from skipper Dusty Baker after Sunday's 5-4, 10-inning loss to the Cubs.

Cueto yielded one run over seven innings and the bullpen blew the win for him. Baker says he doesn't understand why Cubs pitcher Matt Garza was incensed by Cueto's pitch high over David DeJesus' head.

Cueto struck out six of his last seven batters, leading the Cincinnati Reds to a 4-3 victory over the New York Mets on Monday night.

Cueto (2-0) started for the first time since leaving his outing April 13 in the fifth inning with a strained left upper-back muscle. Making his fourth start of the season, the Reds' ace gave up three hits and three runs with eight strikeouts in five innings. But he walked four, including one in the third, when Marlon Byrd touched him for a three-run homer.

Cueto has been activated from the 15-day disabled list, and he is set to make his first start in more than a month on Monday night.

The right-handed Cueto strained a muscle in his upper back during a start April 13 after opening the season 1-0 with a 2.60 ERA. He will be making his fourth start of the year.

Cueto allowed one run and three hits while striking out nine in seven innings, but the Reds lost their opener 3-1 to the Angels on Monday.

Cueto proved he's the unquestioned ace of the Cincinnati staff, beginning the season on a high note after going 19-9 last year.

The Cincinnati Reds have blocked ace Johnny Cueto from pitching for the Dominican Republic in next month's World Baseball Classic.

Cueto strained his right oblique eight pitches into last October's division series against San Francisco. Because he finished the year with an injury, the Reds had the right to block him from playing in the WBC. Cueto was 19-9 with a 2.78 ERA in 33 starts during the regular season

Cueto says he's fully recovered from the injury that scuttled his playoffs after only eight pitches.

The right-hander pulled muscles in his right side during the first game of the Cincinnati Reds' playoff series against the San Francisco Giants. He left the game in the first inning and never got back on a mound because of the injury, the first to a Reds starter all season.
