After placing Michael Young on paternity leave, the Texas Rangers selected the contract of infielder Luis Hernandez from Triple-A Round Rock to take Young's roster spot.

Hernandez, primarily a shortstop, was hitting .262 with eight homers and 66 RBIs in 126 games at Round Rock.
