Obtained from Pittsburgh in an offseason trade, the two-time All-Star is making $7.04 million this year and is eligible for free agency after the World Series. He is 0-1 with a 9.82 ERA and converted four of six save chances in nine games.
Hanrahan hurt the hamstring April 3 against the New York Yankees in his second appearance of the season. Acquired from Pittsburgh during the offseason, he is 0-1 with three saves and an 11.57 ERA in six appearances. Hanrahan will serve as setup man to right-hander Andrew Bailey, who has saved five games in six chances since Hanrahan went on the DL. Bailey is 1-0 with a 1.46 ERA in 13 games.
In Saturday's 2-1 win over Tampa Bay in 10 innings he walked the two batters he faced. In an 8-5 loss to the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday night, he entered in the ninth inning with a 5-3 lead then allowed five runs. The plan is for Hanrahan to rest ``the next couple of days,'' manager John Farrell said before Sunday's game with the Rays. ``We've got to let this settle down first before we get him back into game availability.''
Hanrahan (0-1) allowed five runs on three hits and two homers in 2/3 of an inning in the loss.
