After opening 5-0 with a 2.28 ERA, Guthrie has now dropped back-to-back starts while compiling an 8.25 ERA. He'll try to bounce back against the Los Angeles Angels this weekend.
Guthrie yielded five runs and 11 hits over seven innings. He held the franchise record for consecutive starts without a loss while winning his previous 10 decisions. It was his first defeat since Aug. 3 last year, when Texas beat him 5-3 at Kansas City. "The streak was because of 25 guys that played well behind me every time I was on the mound, and they really picked me up. That's how a streak like that happens," he said modestly.
Facing the Orioles for the first time since they traded him to Colorado in February 2012, Guthrie (5-0) gave up seven hits and three walks while lowering his ERA to 2.28. He's 10-0 since Aug. 8 and has gone a franchise-record 18 straight starts without a loss.
Guthrie improved to 4-0 with a 2.40 ERA over six starts.
While Guthrie is 3-0 with a 3.06 ERA, his FIP sits at 5.06. Fantasy owners should be cautious with him going forward.
Guthrie struck out nine to win his first start of the season.
