Munenori Kawasaki recalled from triple-A by Blue Jays
Izturis put on DL, Walden DFA'd, Jeffress outrighted to Buffalo
The Toronto Blue Jays called up infielder Munenori Kawasaki from triple-A Buffalo on Tuesday and placed infielder Maicer Izturis on the 15-day disabled list.
Kawasaki played 96 games for the Blue Jays last season, posting a .229 batting average with one home run and 24 runs batted in.
Izturis will need to undergo surgery to repair a torn lateral collateral ligament in his left knee and probably will miss the rest of the season. His move to the DL was retroactive to Monday.
Izturis, who was batting .286 after 11 games this season, will seek a second opinion prior to scheduling surgery. The typical recovery time for an LCL repair is four to six months.
Also Tuesday, right-hander Marcus Walden was designated for assignment and right-hander Jeremy Jeffress cleared waivers and was outrighted to the Bisons.
