The Milwaukee Brewers made George Kottaras the latest addition Wednesday, purchasing the catcher's contract from AAA Nashville to serve as Jonathan Lucroy's primary backup.
The 28-year-old Kottaras takes over from light-hitting Wil Nieves after batting .343 in 29 games at Nashville with four home runs and 21 runs batted in.
He also boasted a .432 on-base percentage and .559 slugging percentage.
Kottaras, who hails from Scarborough, Ont., appeared in nine games with the Brewers earlier this season and posted a .269 average and four RBIs.
Nieves was 7-for-50 without a homer or RBI in 20 games.
Infielder Pete Orr and relief pitcher Scott Mathieson are playing for AAA Lehigh Valley in the Philadelphia Phillies' organization after opening the season with the big-league club.
