The Toronto Blue Jays selected right-handed pitcher Zech Zinicola from the Washington Nationals with the 10th selection in Thursday's Rule 5 draft.

The 24-year-old split last season between double-A Harrisburg and triple-A Syracuse in the Nationals system.

He made 17 relief appearances for Harrisburg, going 1-1 with a 1.74 earned-run average and five saves. In 26 games with Syracuse, he was 0-1 with a 7.56 ERA.

The San Bernardino, Calif., native allowed a combined 19 walks with 47 strikeouts in 54 innings.

Dana Brown, special assistant to Blue Jays GM Alex Anthopoulos, is familiar with Zinicola from his time as Washington's amateur scouting director.
