| VANCOUVER
Nestled
between the Pacific Ocean and the Coastal mountains, Vancouver
is one of the world's most picturesque cities.
In
international surveys, the city is always highly ranked. In
a William Mercer survey of 200 cities in 2001, Vancouver was
rated as the best city in the world in terms of quality of
life.
The
city itself is home to 500,000 people and when you include
surrounding communities, the population of the Greater Vancouver
area is about 2 million.
Two
hours up the road is the other half of Canada's Olympic bid.
The resort town of Whistler is frequently ranked North America's
best ski resort.
SALZBURG
The city of Salzburg is one of the loveliest
places in Europe. Located not far from Austria's border with
Germany, Salzburg sits on the Salzach River in a valley nestled
in the Alps.
With its medieval buildings and baroque domes
and turrets dotting the skyline, it's not hard to see why
its historic old city centre is a UN World Heritage site.
Tourists flock to the city not only for its vistas but for
music. Salzburg is the birthplace of Mozart, and music lovers
come from all over for the city's music festivals.
Boasting a population of 150,000, Salzburg
is Austria's fourth-largest city.
PYEONGCHANG
Located
in South Korea's mountainous Kangwon province, Pyeongchang
is 180 kilometres east of the capital Seoul.
While unknown to many Westerners, Pyeongchang is a mecca
for winter sports in Asia, attracting almost 500,000 tourists
from other Asian nations during the winter season.
