Canadian speedskater Christine Nesbitt won the women's 1,000-metre race at the ISU World Cup event in Heerenveen, Netherlands, on Sunday, her third victory of this young season.

Nesbitt, of London, Ont., crossed the finish line with a time of 1:15:47.

Fellow Canadian skaters Kristina Groves (1:16.62) and Cindy Klassen (1:18.49) placed 6th and 18th, respectively.

Nesbitt was joined on the podium by Dutch skaters Annette Gerritsen (1:16.03) and Natasja Bruintjes (1:16.08).

The Canadian women also captured the gold in the Team Pursuit event on Sunday.

The squad posted a time of 3:00.39, easily defeating the Dutch hosts (3:02.12) and the third-place Russian squad (3:02.40).

In men's action, Shani Davis won the 1,000-metre race — the American's second individual victory of the weekend.

Davis (1:08.48) added to his 1,500 win on Friday by edging Simon Kuipers of the Netherlands.

Kuipers grabbed silver in 1:09.06 and Mo Tae-Bum of South Korea took bronze with a time of 1:09.11.

Davis was also a part of the U.S. team that tied for first with the Netherlands in the men's pursuit.

The Canadian team placed eighth.
