Francois-Louis Tremblay and Charles Hamelin won gold and bronze respectively as Canada took four medals at the short-track speedskating World Cup in Marquette, Mich., on Saturday.

Tremblay, of Alma, Que., won the men's 500 metres in 42.437 seconds ahead of France's Thibaut Fauconnet (43.397) and South Korea's Sung Si-Bak.

Sung set a world record of 40.651 in the preliminary heat but failed to capitalize, skating a distant one minute 2.747 seconds in the final.

Hamelin, of Ste-Julie, Que., won bronze in the men's 1,500 behind winner South Korea's Jung-Su Lee.

Lee won gold in 2:13.595 seconds while Hamelin finished in 2:14.216. Apolo Anton Ohno of the U.S. was second in 2:13.731.

In the women's 500, Kalyna Roberge of St-Etienne-de-Lauzon, Que., and Marianne St.-Gelais of Montreal won silver and bronze behind China's Wang Meng.

Wang finished in 42.961, ahead of Roberge's time of 43.339 while St.-Gelais clocked 43.373.

China took the top two spots in the women's 1,500, with Zhou Yang finishing in 2:22.700 to edge Liu Qiuhong. Eun-Byul Lee of South Korea was third.

Valerie Maltais of La Baie, Que., was fourth (2:24.217) while Roberge finished fifth (2:26.844).

Saturday was the second round of qualifying for athletes to secure spots at the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver.

Results from Marquette's World Cup will be combined with last week's World Cup results from Montreal.
