Canadian snowboarder Jasey-Jay Anderson won the final parallel giant slalom event of the World Cup season Sunday in Valmalenco, Italy.

Anderson, from Mont Tremblant, Que., finished ahead of Austrians Karl Benjamin and Siegfried Grabner, while Matthew Morison of Burketon, Ont., finished fifth to secure a spot on the Canadian Olympic team.

Michael Lambert of Toronto, was 13th, his second-best result of the 2009 season. Patrick Farrell of Oakville, Ont., did not advance to the elimination round and finished 30th.

"I got my two best run of the day in the finals against Karl. I knew I had to do that to win. I wasn't expecting to make it that far in the rounds," Anderson said.

"In the semis, Seigfried and I were tied after the two runs, but since I was the one catching up to him, the duel went my way to move on into the finals."

Anderson concluded the season with five medals, including the world championship title in South Korea.

"I feel very accomplished with the results at the end of the season. The legs are still rolling quite nicely. I probably had my best season ever in Alpine racing," said Anderson, who earned his second consecutive victory in the parallel giant slalom.

Grabner ended up winning the overall World Cup title with a cumulative score of 5520 points. Anderson finished in fourth with 4710 points.

Also on Sunday, Caroline Calve of Aylmer, Que., claimed the silver in the women's parallel giant slalom competition to win her first World Cup medal since 2003.

Amelie Kober of Germany won gold, while Doris Guenther of Austria took the bronze.

Alexa Loo of Richmond, BC, finished 13th. Kimiko Zakreski of Calgary was 26th, while Ariane Lavigne of Mont-Tremblant finished 47th.

Kober won the women's overall title with 6232 points.

With the two podium finishes Sunday, Canada concluded the 2009 season with 23 medals - six gold, seven silver and 10 bronze - one medal shy of the all-time World Cup record set last season.
