Softball and baseball could receive another at-bat with the Olympics.

The two sports are among seven that are under consideration for inclusion at the 2016 Summer Games.

The two sports were taken out of the Olympic program for the 2012 Summer Games in London but will have an opportunity for reinstatement for the 2016 Olympics. The host city will be announced in October 2009 at the International Olympic Committee (IOC) assembly in Copenhagen.

Golf, rugby squash, karate and roller sports were among new sports that failed to win admission in 2005 to the London Games but will all be considered for the 2016 schedule according to the IOC.

The same 26 sports on the London program will be put forward for 2016 in Copenhagen. The IOC has set a ceiling of 28 sports, meaning there will be room for only one or two new additions.

The governing bodies for both baseball and softball have been lobbying hard for a return to Olympic competition since being voted off the program by the IOC in Singapore in 2005.

Both sports will be played at this summer's upcoming Beijing Olympics.
