Allison Forsyth to sit out ski season

Ailing Canadian skier Allison Forsyth has decided to take another year off from the World Cup circuit.

Forsyth, who suffered a knee injury at the 2006 Winter Olympics, is expected to announce she will sit out the 2007-08 season during a telephone conference call Thursday evening, the Canadian Press said.

Forsyth, 29, fell during a downhill training run in Italy last February when she lost control of her left ski and grabbed her left knee as she skidded across the course into the protective fencing.

She underwent surgery after tearing her anterior cruciate ligament. The injury prevented her from competing at the Turin Olympics.

Forsyth, who lives in Canmore, Alta., is a five-time World Cup medallist and claimed a bronze medal in the giant slalom at the 2003 world alpine skiing championships.

Her fifth-place ranking in the 1999-2000 World Cup standings was the best by a Canadian woman since Kathy Kreiner in 1977.
