Guay landed on the medal podium for a career-best fifth time this season — the other four came in the downhill — bringing Canada's overall World Cup medal count to 14 on the season, breaking the national record of 13 set in 1982.

Norway's Aksel Lund Svindal finished first in 1:17.94 and Benjamin Raich of Austria was second in 1:18.07. Francois Bourque of New Richmond, Que., was 10th in 1:19:09.

Svindal also won the season's final downhill race on Wednesday.

American Bode Miller captured the season title in the discipline by finishing fourth to give him 304 super-G points for the season, 94 points ahead of newly crowned downhill champion Didier Cuche of Switzerland. Canadian John Kucera finished third.

Raich leads the overall World Cup standings with 1,155 points. Svindal is second with 1,152 points and Cuche remains third with 1,048 with two races left this season — this weekend's final giant slalom and slalom races.

Thursday's race came two days after the International Ski Federation said it was looking to eliminate super-G events from the World Cup circuit.

World Cup director Guenther Hujara confirmed Tuesday that FIS, the governing body for alpine skiing, wants to shorten the ski season by excluding the super-G.

The super-G, which blends downhill with technical or gate racing, was introduced as a World Cup discipline during the 1982-83 season.
