RCMP, Armed Forces seek Canada Winter Games talent

Taking a cue from scouts in sports, the RCMP and the Canadian Armed Forces are using the Canada Winter Games to recruit some of the country's top athletes to their ranks.
About 3,000 athletes are in Whitehorse over the next two weeks to compete in the Winter Games, leading Chief Petty Officer Tim Embree, a Canadian Armed Forces representative, to say that the calibre of potential recruits does not get much better.
"We're looking for good, young athletic people, that's why we're here right now, the Canadian Forces," Embree said.
"We're looking for people who are in good shape, and this is a good event to be advertising what we have to offer."
RCMP Const. Calista MacLeod hopes her love of the job will be enough to convince some of the young competitors to consider a career in the country's police service.
Seventeen-year-old Jesse Bell, who is in Whitehorse to compete in biathlon for Manitoba, says a career with the RCMP sounds interesting.
"I don't know, it seems like it would be a fun job," Bell said. "Travel all over the country and make a difference."
Both the Canadian Armed Forces and the RCMP plan to keep up their recruitment campaign for the duration of the Canada Winter Games, which wrap up March 10.
