World Cup biathlon leader Anna Carin Olofsson of Sweden won a 7.5-kilometre sprint Wednesday to extend her lead in the overall standings.

The Olympic mass start champion won in 21 minutes, 45.2 seconds, missing one target in the event at Pokljuka, Poland.

Tatiana Moiseeva of Russia was faultless at the range and came in second, 6.8 seconds behind, while defending World Cup champion Kati Wilhelm of Germany posted third, 17.4 seconds behind.

Zina Kocher of Red Deer, Alta., placed 13th, 1:09.7 off the lead.

Olofsson surged toward the finish with strong cross-country skiing despite the penalty lap. It was her third victory of the season and ninth career title.

Olofsson leads the overall standings with 432 points, 22 ahead of Wilhelm. She also leads Wilhelm 222-215 in the discipline standings.
