Alpine Canada stalwart Max Gartner has been named president of the skiing governing body, it was announced on Wednesday.

Gartner will be charged with the day-to-day business operations of Alpine Canada as the team looks ahead to the World Cup season, the FIS championships in Italy in February, and the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, Russia.

"Canada's ski teams have been steadily building momentum since 2003, when Max took over responsibilities ... The [Canadian Alpine Ski Teams] have just finished their most successful Olympic cycle ever, with three World Championship medals and 10 World Cup wins," said previous president Gary Allan, who takes over as chairman of the board.

"With Max's passion, leadership and expertise, the organization will remain focused on securing the resources required to continue developing ski racing champions."

Gartner has been with Alpine Canada in a number of capacities for 20 years. His previous duties of managing the alpine ski team programs will be taken over by Patrick Riml.
