American skier Bode Miller on Sunday won his third consecutive gold medal in the super-combined event in Val d'Isère, France.

Miller's combined two-run time of two minutes, 18.45 seconds in the final super-combined event of the season also earned him the World Cup title in the category.

The alpine powerhouse soared through the morning speed leg, finishing 1.37 seconds ahead of the next best skier.

"I did a couple of mistakes on the top part, and I was a little surprised to clock such a fast time," Miller said.

"But my new skis were fantastic in the turns, like skiing on a carpet."

Adding to this season's super-combined wins in Kitzbuehel and Chamonix, Miller collected his 30th World Cup gold to stay atop the world rankings.

The New Hampshire skier also won gold in downhill at the Bormio and Wengen races earlier this season.

Ivica Kostelic (2:18.83) and Natko Zrncic-Dim (2:19.44) took second and third place, becoming the first pair of Croatians ever to share the podium at a World Cup event.

Miller outpaced Kostelic by 0.38 seconds overall, and Zrncic-Dim was 0.99 seconds behind for his first top-three placing.

Jean-Baptiste Grange, home favourite and winner of the Wengen combined, missed two straight gates in the afternoon leg and was eliminated.

The top Canadian competitor, Paul Stutz of Banff, Alta., finished in 35th place with a combined time of 2:24.65.
