The Canadian Young Riders Show Jumping team is competing on the European Tour. The members of that team are Ben Asselin (18), Bretton Chad (18), Kara Chad (16) and Alexandria Smith (19). The team finished eighth in the Nations Cup which was held from May 17-20.
The Canadian Young Riders Show Jumping team is competing on the European Tour. The members of that team are Ben Asselin (18), Bretton Chad (18), Kara Chad (16) and Alexandria Smith (19). The team finished eighth in the Nations Cup which was held from May 17-20. Ben and Kara both had top finishes individually earlier in the week during a competition in Belgium. A week later in Austria, the team finished fourth in the Nations Cup. One of the team's members, Ben Asselin, is really excited about competing - especially after being sidelined for the winter suffering a tear to his ACL. As well: -World renowned equine artist, Fred Stone has painted a portrait to honor Canada's beloved show jumping champion, Hickstead. -Will Captain Canada Ian Millar be the flag bearer during the opening ceremonies at the London Olympics for Team Canada? -On May 14, McLain Ward announced he will retire his famous gold medal mount Sapphire. -Team Canada has been announced for the European Tour. It includes Yann Candel riding Carlotta Singular La Magnifica, Tiffany Foster on Victor, Jill Henselwood with her mount George and Ian Millar with Star Power. -May 2-6 in Belgium, Team Canada placed third out of 15 countries. May 10-13 in Austria, the Canadian Team tied for second out of 14 countries during Nations Cup competition. -Ron and Marg Southern were awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal. -Who will be Eric's Olympic Mount? Will it be Verdi, a 10 year old grey Dutch warmblood gelding or Luikka, a 10 year old Anglo European mare. It could even be Derly Chin de Muze, a 9 year old Belgian warmblood mare.
Deanna PhelanDeanna Phelan has been involved in the Equine world all her life. She currently is the owner of the family farm...GEARY HILL STABLES in Geary, New Brunswick. Phelan is a certified Level 3 Jumping Coach. She also trains and actively competes in Quebec, Ontario and Wellington, Florida with two 8-year old jumpers. She has competed for many years and was short listed for the National Talent Squad. Phelan also began commentating on CBC's Spruce Meadows television programming in 2009. She continues to be a part of the broadcasting team in addition to covering the Equine world for CBCSports.ca. She is currently President of the New Brunswick Equestrian Association. Phelan considers herself a student of the sport who continues to work hard at becoming a better professional rider and coach. She has a BA in Public Relations from Mount Saint Vincent University, Halifax, Nova Scotia.
