Canada close to naming Olympic show jumpers

The Canadian Olympic Committee is close to naming its show jumping team for the upcoming London Olympic Summer Games.

The Canadian Olympic Committee is close to naming the show jumping team for the upcoming London Olympic Summer Games.

Equine Canada and the Jump Canada High Performance Committee have announced the show jumping nominations that have been forwarded to the COC. They are:

  • Yann Candele on Carlotta Singular La Magnifica
  • Tiffany Foster on Victor
  • Jill Henselwood on George
  • Eric Lamaze on Derly Chin De Muze or Verdi
  • Ian Millar on Star Power
The selection process started early in the winter, when 23 riders submitted declarations forms and commenced their quest to ride for Canada. They were then observed as they competed in California and Florida during the winter circuit.

The next round of observations came in the month of May in Europe, where Canada competed in two Nation Cup competitions. Then came Spruce Meadows in June, where team candidates were observed until the June 17 date arrived for Canada to submit its list of riders and horses for consideration.

The COC will formally announce the members of the 2012 Canadian Olympic Team for dressage, eventing and show jumping at a media conference at Spruce Meadows on July 5.

Two hundred athlete/horse combinations will compete at in the Olympics -- 50 in dressage, 75 in eventing and 75 in jumping.
