That didn't take long.

The Minnesota Wild, already a huge underdog against the top-seeded Chicago Blackhawks, lost the services of goalie Niklas Backstrom prior to Game 1 of the Western Conference quarter-finals Tuesday night.

The injury occurred during warmups after Backstrom stopped an initial shot. He then lunged to his right for the puck and appeared to injure his left leg. Backstrom needed help from a trainer as he made his way to the dressing room.

The Wild, who are playing without winger Jason Pominville, called on backup Josh Harding to replace Backstrom. Harding, who takes medication for multiple sclerosis, has started in only three games this season.
