With one swat of the puck, Chicago defenceman Brent Seabrook made sure the Blackhawks would secure a victory Wednesday night against the Detroit Red Wings.

The visiting Wings, trailing 3-1 with less than three minutes remaining in Game 1 of the Western Conference semifinal, appeared ready to cut the deficit to one goal.

Detroit centre Damien Brunner's rebound shot hit the crossbar, but Seabrook batted the puck back to goalie Corey Crawford, preventing a possible goal.

The Blackhawks skated to a 4-1 win.
