We at CBCSports.ca will be keeping an eye on the next generation of NHL stars on Canada's seven clubs, whether they're working on the "farm" in the AHL or honing their game overseas while waiting for the end of the lockout.

We'll periodically check in with these players throughout the 2012-13 season, no matter what league they'll be lacing up their skates in. In this edition, the Winnipeg Jets' Mark Scheifele.
An NHL lockout means that some of the youngsters ready to shine are relegated to playing elsewhere. That doesn't mean they aren't growing and developing into the stars of tomorrow.

We'll periodically check in with these players throughout the 2012-13 season, no matter what league they'll be lacing up their skates in. In this edition, the Winnipeg Jets' Mark Scheifele:

Mark Scheifele
Age/ Birthplace: 19, Kitchener, Ont.
Position: C
NHL club/draft position: Drafted 7th overall by the Winnipeg Jets in 2011
NHL GP:  7
Junior team: Barrie Colts
Current team: Barrie Colts (OHL)
Stats on current team: 15GP, 8G, 15A, +7, 11 PIM (as of Oct. 31)

How he will fit in with his NHL club:

It's undetermined whether Scheifele, who had a taste of "the show" when he appeared in seven games with the Jets last season, will move from the OHL's Colts to the parent club or the AHL's St. John's IceCaps as he continues his development.

The 19-year-old is widely regarded as one of the most gifted centres in the OHL, but there's no hurry to rush Scheifele out of junior, especially when he's in such good hands in Barrie. Jets legend Dale Hawerchuk is Scheifele's head coach and GM of the Colts.

Not a bad situation for the Jets prospect to learn and grow in; not at all.

Highlight: 1st NHL goal
