The seven Canadian teams departed the NHL entry draft with plenty of work to accomplish before the 2012-13 training camps open. Here is a glance at what each team did at the draft, free agent and salary cap situation as well as its top summer priority.

PITTSBURGH - The Presidents Trophy-winning Vancouver Canucks and surprising Ottawa Senators were the only two Canadian teams to make the 2012 Stanley Cup playoffs, and both clubs were eliminated in the first round.

So the seven Canadian teams departed the NHL entry draft with plenty of work to accomplish before the 2012-13 training camps open. Here is a glance at what each team did at the draft, its free agent and salary cap situations as well as top summer priorities.

Calgary Flames

Draft picks: 1. (21) C Mark Jankowski, Stanstead College; 2. (42) D Patrick Sieloff, USA under-18; 3. (75) G Jon Gillies, Indiana USHL; 4. (105) D Brent Kulak, Vancouver Giants; 5. (124) D Ryan Culkin, Quebec Remparts; 6. (165) LW Coda Gordon, Swift Current Broncos; 7. (186) C Matthew Deblouw, Muskegon USHL.

Free agents: Unrestricted - Cory Sarich, Scott Hannan, Olli Jokinen, Lee Stempniak, David Moss, Tom Kostopoulos. Restricted - Blake Comeau, Mikael Backlund, Blair Jones, Akim Aliu.

Salary cap: 16 players at $50.3-million US under contract. $20-million in cap space.

Top Priorities: Lasso a top-six forward, especially if Jokinen moves on. 

Edmonton Oilers

Draft picks: 1. (1) RW Nail Yakupov, Sarnia Sting; 2. (32) LW Mitchell Moroz, Edmonton Oil Kings; 3. (63) LW Jujhar Khaira, Prince George Cougars; 3. (91) LW Daniil Zharkov, Belleville Bulls; 4. (93) D Erik Gustafsson, Djurgarden; 5. (123) D Joey Laleggia, U of Denver; 6. (153) RW John McCarron, Cornell.

Free agents: UFA - Ryan Smyth, Darcy Hordichuk. RFA - Sam Gagner, Linus Omark, Cam Barker, Theo Peckham, Jeff Petry, Devan Dubnyk.

Salary cap: 17 players at $43.7-million under contract. $26.6-million in cap space.

Top priorities: They need to acquire a top-four defenceman and hire a head coach next week.

Montreal Canadiens

Draft picks: 1. (3) C Alex Galchenyuk, Sarnia Sting; 2. (33) RW Sebastian Collberg, Frolunda; 2. (51) D Dalton Thrower, Saskatoon Blades; 3. (64) LW Tim Bozon, Kamloops Blazers; 4. (94) C Brady Vail, Windsor Spitfires; 5. (122) LW Charles Hudon, Chicoutimi Sagueneens; 6. (154) LW Erik Nystrom, Modo Jr.

Free agents: UFA - Chris Campoli, Travis Moen, Mathieu Darche, Brad Staubitz. RFA - Carey Price, Lars Eller, Blake Geoffrion, Aaron Palushaj, Ryan White, Mike Blunden, Petteri Nokalaien, Alexei Emelin, Raphael Diaz, Frederic St. Denis.

Salary cap: 13 players at $44.7-million under contract. $25.6-million in cap space.

Top priorities: Decide what to do with Scott Gomez and re-sign Price.

Ottawa Senators

Draft picks: 1. (15) D Cody Ceci, Ottawa 67's; 2. (76) G Chris Driedger, Calgary Hitmen; 3. (82) C Jarrod Maidens, Owen Sound Attack; 4. (106) D Tim Boyle, Nobles high school; 5. (136) C Robert Baillargeon, Indiana USHL; 6. (166) G Francois Brassard, Quebec Remparts; 7. (196) D Mikael Wikstrand, Mora.

Free agents: UFA - Jesse Winchester, Zenon Konopka, Rob Klinkhammer, Filip Kuba, Matt Gilroy, Matt Carkner. RFA - Nick Foligno, Jim O'Brien, Kaspars Daugavins.

Salary cap: 16 players at $43.8-million under contract. $26.5-million in cap space.

Top priorities: Continue to pursue Rick Nash trade. The price is high, but the Senators have plenty of young assets.

Toronto Maple Leafs

Draft picks: 1. (5) D Morgan Rielly, Moose Jaw Warriors; 2. (35) D Matthew Finn, Guelph Storm; 5. (126) C Dominic Toninato, Minnesota-Duluth; 6. (156) RW Connor Brown, Erie Otters; 6. (157) C Ryan Rupert, London Knights.

Free agents: UFA - Joey Crabb, Jay Rosehill. RFA - Nikolai Kulemin, Matt Frattin, Cody Franson.

Salary cap: 17 players at $56.7-million under contract. $13.6-million in cap space.

Top priorities: Still need high-end players at each position. They tried to get Jordan Staal, and still remain interested in Vancouver goalie Roberto Luongo.

Vancouver Canucks

Draft picks: 1. (26) C Brendan Gaunce, Belleville Bulls; 2. (57) LW Alexandre Mallet, Rimouski Oceanic; 5 (147) D Ben Hutton, Nepean Tier II; 6. (177) LW Wesley Myron, Victoria Grizzlies; 7. (207) LW Matthew Beattie, Exeter high school.

Free agents: UFA - Byron Bitz, Andrew Ebbett, Sami Salo, Aaron Rome. RFA - Mason Raymond, Dale Weise, Marc-Andre Gragnani, Cory Schneider.

Salary cap: 18 players at $55.7-million under contract. $14.6-million in cap space.

Top priorities: Re-sign Schneider, trade Roberto Luongo and acquire depth at all positions.

Winnipeg Jets

Draft picks: 1. (9) D Jacob Trouba, USA under-18; 2. (39) C Lukas Sutter, Saskatoon Blades; 3. (70) RW Scott Kosmachuk, Guelph Storm; 5. (130) G Connor Hellebuyck, Odessa; 6. (160) C Ryan Olsen, Saskatoon Blades; 7. (190) G Jamie Phillips, Toronto Jr. Canadiens.

Free agents: UFA - Tanner Glass, Kyle Wellwood, Tim Stapleton, Randy Jones, Mark Flood, Chris Mason, Jonas Gustavsson. RFA - Evander Kane, Eric Fehr, Spencer Machacek, Ondrej Pavelec.

Salary cap: 15 players at $38.5-million under contract. $31.8-million in cap space.

Top priorities: Get both Pavelec and Gustavsson under contract and continue to improve overall lineup.
