Gorges will miss the rest of the season with a lower-body injury.

Gorges went for a second opinion, which confirmed the injury and ruled him out until next season.

Gorges blocked four shots Saturday.

Gorges leads the NHL with 3.35 blocks per game.

Gorges has been activated off the injured reserve list after missing seven games with a knee injury.

The move was announced Tuesday, before the Sabres' home game against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

The Buffalo Sabres have acquired Gorges in a trade with the Montreal Canadiens.

In exchange, the Sabres gave up a second-round pick in the 2016 draft in a deal made Tuesday shortly after the start of the NHL's free-agency period. Gorges is a nine-year NHL veteran, who spent the past seven-plus seasons in Montreal. He's a dependable blue liner, whom the Sabres targeted to help groom their young crop of defensemen.
