Budaj was in goal for a 2-1 overtime loss to Detroit in Montreal's first post-Olympics game Wednesday and started again for a 6-5 shootout win in Pittsburgh the following night, as Carey Price continues to sit out with a lower-body injury.
Budaj's win was his first since Dec. 4. He has a 1.05 goals-against average in his last three appearances and has played a total of 114-plus minutes in those games.
Budaj improved to 4-1-0 with a spectacular 1.58 GAA. All of his starts have come on the road.
Budaj was giving starter Carey Price a night off before the Canadiens face the New York Rangers at home on Saturday night,
The 31-year-old Budaj was on the top of his game despite playing in place of No. 1 goalie Carey Price for only the second time this season and first since Oct. 10 at Edmonton when he stopped 27 of 28 shots in a win.
