Carrier has received a two-year contract extension from the San Francisco 49ers that takes him through the 2017 season. Carrier went on season-ending injured reserve Nov. 27 with a foot injury. Before that, he appeared in 11 games with one start and made nine receptions for 105 yards. The 49ers have liked his speed and blocking ability. San Francisco has depth at tight end, a position led by Vernon Davis.
An undrafted free agent by Oakland in 2012, Carrier was released by the Raiders before the season, then joined the Eagles' practice squad for nearly a year. The 49ers picked him up in September 2013 and promoted him to the 53-man roster on Nov. 16, 2013.
