Burfict was the Bengals' leading tackler in each of the past two seasons and made the Pro Bowl last season. He missed two full games and parts of others early in the season after getting two concussions. He had surgery to clean out his left knee on Oct. 29 and never got healthy enough to play again. Burfict started only five games and had 29 tackles.
Vincent Ray will start in his place.
A strained neck limited him in practice during the week. He's missed two games because of concussions.
Burfict was fined for twisting an opponent's leg twice after the play was over in the third and fourth quarters of a 37-37 tie with Carolina. Panthers quarterback Cam Newton and tight end Greg Olsen were the victims. The fine was reported by The Associated Press earlier this week.
Burfict is missing his second straight game after suffering a concussion.
When healthy, Burfict is a solid fantasy option in IDP leagues.
Burfict will have to pass tests to be eligible to play Sunday.
The Pro Bowl linebacker suffered a concussion during Cincinnati's season-opening win at Baltimore last Sunday. He had to pass the concussion protocol tests to be ruled eligible.
The play occurred late in the first half when Burfict hit his head while putting pressure on quarterback Joe Flacco. He left the field after a short delay and was declared out for the game early in the third quarter.
Burfict is making $570,000 in the final year of his original deal with Cincinnati, which took a minimal risk and signed him as an undrafted free agent from Arizona State in 2012.
