Martin suffered a torn labrum in his shoulder, though there was talk that he'd try to play through it.
The second-year pro was placed on injured reserve Friday. Linebacker Ka'lial Glaud was promoted from the active roster to fill the opening. Martin was a Pro Bowl selection as a rookie, rushing for 1,454 yards and finishing third in the NFL behind Adrian Peterson and Calvin Johnson with 1,926 total yards from scrimmage in 2012
Martin was solid but his opportunities were also limited. With Tampa Bay unable to maintain a steady lead, Mike Glennon attempted 43 passes. But Glennon was also serviceable, lessening doubts about Martin's fantasy potential with the rookie playing quarterback.
This was a much better effort for Martin, who totaled 65 on 24 carries in the season-opening loss to the Jets. He only solidified his status as a No. 1 fantasy back.
Especially with two of the team's best players - guards Carl Nicks and Davin Joseph - returning from injuries to strengthen the offensive line. Martin finished third in the NFL behind Adrian Peterson and Calvin Johnson with 1,926 total yards from scrimmage in 2012. He was fourth in rushing behind Peterson, Alfred Morris, Marshawn Lynch and Jamal Charles after being selected with the 31st overall pick of last year's draft.
