The move gives new president Phil Jackson an offseason to look at the versatile forward who thrived in his system. Odom helped the Los Angeles Lakers win NBA titles in 2009 and 2010, and was the Sixth Man of the Year in 2011, Jackson's final season as coach.
Odom was arrested Aug. 30 after his Mercedes-Benz SUV was spotted weaving on an LA freeway. He is currently out of the NBA, going unsigned as a free-agent after averaging a career-low 4 points and 5.9 rebounds last season with the Los Angeles Clippers.
Odom was not in court when a judge rescheduled the arraignment for Oct. 10. The 33-year-old free agent was arrested Aug. 30 after his Mercedes-Benz SUV was spotted weaving on a San Fernando Valley freeway in the early morning hours. The DUI charge is a misdemeanor and includes an allegation that Odom refused to take a chemical test. He was released on $15,000 bail.
The 33-year-old Odom could face six months in jail and a $1,000 fine if convicted. Arraignment is scheduled for Sept. 27. After spending the 2012 season with the Dallas Mavericks, Odom returned to the Clippers last year. He became a free agent at the end of the season.
