Villar left in the seventh inning of Sunday's 8-2 win against the Chicago White Sox. The Astros' website reported that the shortstop developed a deep bruise between the thumb and forefinger on his right hand after making a swing in the fourth inning.

Manager Bo Porter did not think the injury was serious. Villar was held out May 7 in Detroit with a jammed right thumb and told the Astros' website that the bruise is in about the same place.

Astros shortstop Jonathan Villar was left out of the starting lineup Wednesday night because of an issue with his throwing hand.

Manager Bo Porter said the move was just precautionary.

Villar had a busy game Saturday.

Villar hit a two-run homer and another hit to finish with three RBIs but also had his fourth error of the year.

Villar went 2 for 3 with a double and a triple in Sunday's win over Oakland.

Villar drove in two runs and scored twice. He's hit safely in each of the last five games, going 7 for 17 with five extra-base hits.

Villar homered among his two hits and scored twice Saturday.

Villar owns a .735 OPS - not bad for a light-hitting infielder.
