Diamond (6-11) allowed three runs and five hits in 6 1-3 innings to earn his first big league win since June 20 against the White Sox. Since then, he was 0-5 with a 6.20 ERA in eight starts and spent more than a month at Triple-A Rochester.
He struck out six of the first nine batters he faced, including four straight, and lowered his opponents' batting average to .165 the first time through the lineup, the lowest mark in the majors among pitchers with at least 130 innings pitched.

Diamond won his first decision since throwing seven scoreless innings May 7 at Boston, a string of four starts. He gave up three first-inning hits but was nearly flawless afterward, allowing only two base runners - a single and a walk - and facing one batter over the minimum. He struck out three.
Diamond allowed three hits in seven shutout innings. said he still felt strong when he left the game but understands the cautious approach less than five months after the operation on his left elbow so fantasy owners can breathe easy. He's allowed three or fewer runs in four of his five outings.
Diamond seemed to right himself, improving to 2-2 with a 3.97 ERA after he gave up a career-hit 12 hits to the Rangers in his previous start.
The Twins activated Diamond and optioned RHP Liam Hendriks to Triple-A Rochester.
