Sanchez walked a season-high six batters and threw a pair of wild pitches Saturday night. He was replaced by Al Alburquerque starting the seventh. Sanchez, the AL ERA leader, struck out four batters in the first, joining Orval Overall of the 1908 Chicago Cubs as the only pitchers to fan more than three in a postseason inning. Overall did it in the first inning of World Series Game 5.
Sanchez allowed three runs and six hits in 6 2/3 innings, walking one and striking out five.
Sanchez (11-7, 2.50 ERA) allowed a run and seven hits in 7 1-3 innings Thursday. He has a 1.54 ERA in his last five starts and has allowed two runs or fewer in each of his past six.
Sanchez tossed seven easy innings against a Yankees lineup that was without Alex Rodriguez. He struck out eight and allowed one run.
Sanchez is 2-1 in his last four starts with a 1.35 ERA.
Sanchez (9-7, 2.59 ERA) gave up one run, five hits and two walks over seven innings. He has a 0.95 ERA in his last three outings.
Sanchez's 2.68 ERA is a career-best and he'll have a shot to top his personal record of 13 wins, which he accomplished in 2010 with the Marlins.
Sanchez has been out since June 16 with a strained right shoulder, and had to leave his rehab start with Class A Lakeland on Monday after taking a line drive off his lower left leg. He had a bruised leg but nothing more.
Sanchez was deemed healthy enough to pitch after he went 10 days between starts because of a troublesome shoulder. Sanchez and manager Jim Leyland said Sanchez was didn't have the usual velocity on his fastball.
Tigers trainer Kevin Rand said on Saturday it was the prudent decision to sit Sanchez because he didn't recover well from his previous outing and it's early in the season. Sanchez says there's tightness in the back of his right shoulder. The right-hander won his last start on June 4 against Tampa Bay, giving up one run in seven innings. He is 6-4 with a 2.65 ERA in 12 starts, which includes a one-hitter May 24 against Minnesota.
