Earlier this month, Peter Nowak of cbc.ca/technology wrote about how Bell, Rogers, and Telus were dropping cell phone system access fees from their discount brands Solo, Fido, and Koodo. It was a hugely popular story on the CBC website.

Today, Peter dropped by the Spark studio to explain the system access fee -- what it is, where it came from, and why some Canadian carriers are dropping it. Download the MP3.

What do you think? Would you consider switching to a SAF-free mobile provider? Any creative thoughts about what system access fees actually pay for? Leave your thoughts in the comments.
