And he's a little wary of algorithmic culture.
What's that? It's the informal name for whenever mathematical formulae and computational power are used to analyze and predict your tastes. Algorithms, in essence, do the heavy lifting, the "work" of cultural engagement, for you.
Amazon suggestions, Netflix recommendations, even dating sites, all rely on complex and often propietary code to suss out what you might like.
In a series of posts, Ted pondered the future of this algorithmic culture. After all, why bother discovering something for yourself, say cat videos (don't judge!), when Youtube can just recommend the Top 10 clips of Maru, the jumping cat?
