This morning, Nora interviewed Seth Godin about his new publishing venture, The Domino Project, which aims to “redefine both what it means to be a publisher and what we think of as a book.” A shorter version of this interview will air on an upcoming episode of Spark, but you can hear the full, uncut interview below, or download the MP3. Nora, great interview.
Seth's analysis is, i think, spot on. First the newspaper industry. Then the record industry. Next the book industry.
The internet puts the individual author firmly in the driving seat. Provided they actually take the effort to build their tribe.

Thanks for sharing this interview online. Very interesting thoughts.
I know some of Seth Godin books and am following the domino project to see how it's done and how it develops and also to see how to use this idea for other projects and products.
The idea of not focussing on scarcity but turning a book or probably any product into a conversation requires a shift in the mindset of most sellers, including us. It's challenging.
Great as always. Seth's principles are encouraging to me. I am building my first business and believe that I am more equipped to succeed because I have absorbed the business and marketing experiences that Seth shares and models. Sound minds produce fruitful results. I appreciate Seth's encouragement and reasoning. Thank you for posting this interview.
Cheers,
Dustin Faddis
Seth…brilliant…BTW…Nora your voice is like satin on the air…
A fine interview, I always appreciate Seth. And Nora, what a pleasure to listen to such pleasant voice. Unfortunately rare for women presenters. I put your voice in my admiration basket of Pamela Harriman, ambassador to France, and Christine Ockrent, newscaster. Bravo!
Another great interview with Seth Nora. As I think was intended Spark ignites conversation and this interview certainly will do that (and is already). Seth's view of the business world is always a flood of future insight, full of take-to-the-bank logical argument and forewarning about our inevitable head-on crash with the realities of a new rapidly changing marketplace culture. I loved your interaction with him. It was comfortable yet troubling, like having Nostradamus over for tea. Your questions for him were so incredibly close to what I wanted to ask, and indeed so timely, that I hadn't yet thought of them myself. Count me in as a true Sparkie.
Hi Nora,
thanx so much for sharing this interview!
Seth is so inspiring and I liked the way you interviewed him. Open questions that leave him space to share his interesting ideas.
Keep on with your interesting podcasts!
I have recently started a blog, the information you provide on this site has helped me tremendously. Thanks for all of your time & work.
As a self-publisher of graphic novels I really appreciated this interview and Seth Godin's cogent assessment of the changes coming in the publishing industry. The situation is a little different with comics in the terms of their collectibility but only narrowly as the rise of web comics demonstrates. Seth's comments about building a "tribe" made sense too, though I find it helps to have a partner in those endeavors ( thanks to my brother) as it takes a lot of time to draw a book and then reach out to the "tribe". However, I do see that as being the configuration of the future.
