We’re hearing more about the development of the “game layer” on top of the real world. Seth Priebatsch of SCVNGR recently talked to Nora about the need to build the game layer consciously. The potential to influence human behaviour via game mechanics is enormous.
Dan Hon has another request: keep gaming fun. Dan is a senior member of Wieden + Kennedy’s creative team where he specializes in games, play, and new ways of storytelling. Dan’s concern is that pretty soon everything from brushing your teeth to filling out your income tax return will be an opportunity to score. This could make gaming about the grinding chore of collecting points instead of true enjoyment.
A shorter version of this interview will air on a future episode of Spark, but right now, here’s Nora’s full conversation with Dan Hon. Download the mp3 or listen below [runs 21:16]:

the whole problem is maturing gamers. in higher levels, there needs to be more story, and more consequences to what they choose to do. the game should be harder on the player not just harder or just harder on the computer's motor and cards. puzzles are usually cheated through, but some just can't be. maybe using random instance variables and more social punishments. i know its hard to waste a player's time and money. but its a game folks, you need to be able to win, not just play like a retard farming easy bosses.
Very interesting I like and agree with all the points he makes but I will watch out for addicting games now
Dan has the pulse of gaming, The addictive aspect is more than unnerving. When you look at "gaming" as reality…. shudder…. In British Columbia we have buxom blonds with government gambling sites printed on their T-Shirts smiling at us from our newly acquired massive screen tvs. As Dan so plainly put it, its not winning, its gaming…..
As slowly we get sucked into a vortex.
