We rolled out the last episode of the first season of Spark on June 18th and 21st. Thanks to everyone who listened and visited us at here at the blog. Thanks to your support, Spark is coming back for a new season at the beginning of September. Yippee! So, here’s the game plan while Spark is on hiatus.
If you listen to Spark on the radio, you’ll be hearing two great, new summer series: On Wednesdays, you can hear Crossing Boundaries; on Saturdays, there’s Between You And Me.
If you subscribe to the podcast, pleeeeeaaase stay subscribed. We’ll be featuring a different, long-form interview or panel each week. They’ll come out on Wednesdays, as usual.
And the blog? Much as we love the blog, there are no resources available for maintaining it while we’re on hiatus. If you’d like to leave a story idea for next season, we’d love to read what you have to say. I’ve written a separate post for that, below. We’ll be back to blogging as soon as we get production underway in mid-August.
Thanks again for listening!

“no resources available for maintaining it while we’re on hiatus”
does that mean “no one will get paid”?
do you think any of us get paid to do our blogs? isnt 2.0 all about doing it for the good of the community? because you love it? because you have all this goodness bursting you have to share it?
since when did it become about the paycheque?
Hi bz,
I understand your concern, and believe me, we thought long and hard about how we were going to handle the blog over the summer. It’s a question MSM are going to need to deal with more and more as we think about what it means to be both a broadcast, (which works by season) and a podcast/blog.
Actually, I do believe deeply in online community.
That’s why I put in lots of unpaid time to come up with the concept for Spark, which I pitched to CBC.
That’s why, in addition to Spark, I’ve been doing an entirely voluntary indie podcast for the last 3 years. No one has ever paid me a dime for it; it takes a lot of time, and I love it.
That’s why I’ve been going to the community-based Podcasters Across Borders conference every year for the past 3 years. They’re great people, and I love that community.
All that said, much as I love Spark, it is my job. I’m sure your employer doesn’t expect you to work for free, and I’m sure my employers don’t expect me to work for free either.
(BTW, my indie podcast is at foursevens.com/thesniffer, if you’re interested, though our host is going to change soon, so you may not be able to access it at that URL for long).
I am a MSM radio broadcaster in Vancouver.
I dont punch a clock, I believe in being on 24/7. I am on vacation this week, and in between nailing a deck in the backyard, I’m updating my blog on not only my personal site, but my radio site as well.
It’s all about brand maintenance.
Yes, we need downtime to recharge, but in this web world with short attention spans, those who are silent will be quickly forgotten as attention turns to the next bright shiny url.
I am a HUGE fan of Spark, think it is by far one of the freshest and brightest programs I have ever heard.
I’ve tried The Sniffer a couple times, couldnt get into it, sorry
Thanks for a great 1st Season & have a great Summer!
*I feel like I’m signing a High School Year Book. ; )
Thanks Nora for coming up with the idea for Spark and to the whole team for work that you’ve all put into it. We’ll try not to hold it against you that you were paid for your time!
