This guy is completely insecure about his work if he’s worried that someone will accuse him of plagerizing them through fanfiction. Shows that he knows nothing about fanfiction communities where fanfic writers always put disclaimers on saying that they do not own any of the canon characters and don’t sue them. It’s really the other way around.
He doesn’t even understand the concept of the difference between canon (the original official text, what the original author wrote) and fanon (what the fans make up through speculation in their fiction, like an alternate fanfiction world). Canon always trumps fanon and they can co-exist without the general public mistaking the two. And it says a lot that he doesn’t want fanfiction distributed, he’s just very insecure about people playing around with his work. If that’s the case, then he should never publish anything that is free for people to play with in a non-profit manner. He comes across as very ignorant, arrogant and insecure in this interview. I’m thankful that most writers are have more faith in their work and in their fans than this gentleman.
That’s so sad! He should be honoured that people like his characters enough to write fanfics about them! And it’s not as though anybody wants to pretend that the characters are theirs anyway!
And, lets face it, there are alot of fanfics I’ve read, that are better than the original source
Inappropriate? Put a filter on your computer! That could happen with any website with a search for very many equally innocent things.
Most fanfic writers don’t say things like that. It’s all in good fun, many fanfiction writers have amazing talent. There are people who have been scouted from fanfic websites for book deals.
This guy does seem very insecure, I agree.
House is a very bad example to be honest. The writing in that is so witty and cutting that trying to write an actual episode is near impossible. The small one-shots of scenes of characters coming together etc is what people want to see. That is why it is so popular.
Books don’t just stop, characters are still alive or were in existance before. There is always more to write about the characters/setting or general world of the fandom.

These have to be truer words ever said. This is a fan fics number one golden rule. Series of shows/books do end, but the caharcters do live on, and it’s up to us fandom artists to write about them. I just wish there was someone to get more publicity because there are so many amazing writers out there that deserve a lot of credit.
