Get your fill of banjo and fiddle with Karrnnel and Daniel Koulack. This all music show comes to us from Artesian on 13th in Regina.
Known to Saskatchewan traditional music lovers as one of our province's best fiddle virtuosos, Saskatoon's Karrnnel is a force to be reckoned with. He is the most decorated competitive fiddler in Saskatchewan's history, and he was also nominated as Instrumental Solo Artist of the Year at the 2009 Canadian Folk Music awards. Karrnnel's musical influences are varied and include Canadian Old Time, Métis, Ukrainian, Irish, Scottish, and Bluegrass among others. Karrnnel brings this eclectic musical sensibility to his original compositions which combine both traditional and modern sensibilities.
Daniel Koulack is one of Manitoba's most talented multi-instrumentalists. He's had a banjo concerto written for him that he premiered with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra. He's a former member of the Winnipeg klezmer bands 'Finjan' and 'The North End Klezmer Project'. Daniel has also performed with a who's who of traditional Canadian musicians both on banjo, guitar, and upright bass. He's one of the musical people you'll ever meet. He's also got the biggest banjo collection we've ever seen. Daniel had 6 of them onstage for this performance!
Karrnnel and Daniel met at a summer music camp, and they had such a great time working together they decided to record a fiddle and banjo album. The album's recorded, it's been released, and it's already been nominated for Instrumental Album of the Year at the 2010 Canadian Folk Music awards. This concert features all the tunes from that album along with a couple of extra treats.
