Political Panel: The Speech from the Throne

Shift's political panel - Luc Desjardins, Lisa Keenan and Michael Camp - look at the Speech from the Thone, including proposals to reduce the number of MLAs and the amount of unconditional grants to municipalities. The panel also looks at the protest outside the legislature surrounding the province's plans for shale gas exploration.

Political Panel: Crime Bill and Windsor Energy

Ottawa's omnibus crime bill could cost the provinces billions over the next few years because while the tough-on-crime policies are within federal jurisdiction, the provinces have to carry them out. Quebec and Ontario are saying they're not going to pay. Our political panel - Michael Camp, Lisa Keenan and Luc Desjardins - tackle the issue. They also look at the province's decision to hand its investigation of Windsor Energy over the to RCMP.

Political Panel: Snowplows, Seniors, Insurance and Ferguson

With the deficit on the rise, the province is looking at some interesting ways of raising money and cutting expenses, including introducing highway tolls, reducing snowplowing and road salt, and increasing the co-payment ceiling low-income seniors pay when filling prescriptions. But the week wasn't entirely focused on finance. Michel Leger and his insurance working group recommend boosting the cap on soft-tissue injuries, and Michael Ferguson is the new Auditor General.
