From Juno Nominee To Ex-Nominee All Within A Few Weeks

Elisapie.jpgWhen the nominations for the 2013 Juno Awards were announced in February, Montreal based singer Elisapie was listed as one of the five nominees for BREAKTHROUGH ARTIST OF THE YEAR.

A few weeks later the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences rescinded her nomination, saying that she was ineligible.

Elisapie and Dan discussed how she is feeling today, and how she felt when she found out that she was no longer in the running.

The Juno Awards of 1972 And The Story Behind "Sweet City Woman"

STAMPEDERS Sweet City Woman.JPGThe 1971 song "Sweet City Woman" from Canadian band The Stampeders' debut album "Against The Grain" helped them win numerous Juno Awards in 1972, including Best Single, Songwriter of the Year, Record Producer of the Year, and the band was named Canada's Top Group.

Rich Dodson and Kim Berly spoke with Dan about the ceremony that night and the legacy of their song and The Stampeders' music.

The History Of The Juno Award - Not The Awards Show, The Award Itself

STATUEJUNO.jpgWhen Dan found out that the original Juno Award was made of wood, he wondered what else he didn't know about the Award. So here is a documentary about the history of the Juno Award statuette - not the Juno Awards, but the trophy they give out.

It features CBC Saskatchewan's Jordan Jackle, Britainy Robinson, Dean Gutheil, Joana Draghici, Eric Anderson, Sheryl Rennie, Dan Reynish and Miles Bocknek from Crystal Sensations, the company that produces the actual Award.

You'll also hear 43 years of Juno Award winning Canadian songs mixed in as well.

Belle Starr Stopped By For A Chat During Juno Week

Ian Thomas On His Juno Win In 1974 And Music Awards Shows Today

IanThomasPhoto.jpgIn 1974 Ian Thomas won the Juno Award for Most Promising Male Vocalist of the Year.

In the years since, he has written hits for Manfred Mann's Earth Band, Santana, America and Chicago, acted, written two books, and recorded with the bands The Boomers and Lunch At Allen's.

Ian and Dan share a few laughs as they talk about all of that, the state of awards shows today and even how Ian managed to make an appearance on the Great White North with Bob & Doug McKenzie!!

Two Time Juno Award Winner Jon Ballantyne On Winning In His Hometown

JonBallantynePhoto.jpgSaskatchewan musician Jon Ballantyne has won two Juno Awards, and his most recent win came in his hometown of Saskatoon in 2007.

Jon and Dan look back on that win, and talk about the fact that Jon is nominated again this year in the Instrumental Album of the Year category for TWENTY ACCIDENT FREE WORKDAYS, a project he created with Calgary's Hugh Sicotte.
