Constituency profile: Yorkton is a mixed urban and rural constituency that serves as the agricultural service centre for east-central Saskatchewan but also has a significant manufacturing base. Leon's Manufacturing, Morris Industries, Ram Industries and Ramrod Equipment all make farm and agriculture-related implements. There are also a large number of service-sector employees in Yorkton.

Major communities: Yorkton, Orcadia, Mehan, Fonhill, Willowbrook, Enfin, Chrysler and Rokeby.

Political History:

The constituency's boundaries were changed prior to the 2003 election to incorporate some polls from the Melville riding.

NDP incumbent Clay Serby won a fourth term in 2003, beating the Saskatchewan Party's Randy Atkinson by 782 votes. Serby, who was first elected in 1991, currently serves as deputy premier and minister of property management.

Serby, who is receiving treatment for cancer, announced earlier this year that for health reasons he wouldn't run in this election.
