Constituency profile: This urban constituency located in south-central Saskatoon is made up primarily of single-family homes in older established neighbourhoods. Its area encompasses the Saskatoon Prairieland Exhibition Grounds, Marquis Downs and the Western Development Museum. There are many restaurants and retail businesses in the Broadway District and along Eighth Street, which also hosts such cultural festivals as the Fringe and is home to L'Ecole Canadienne Francaise.
The constituency is bounded by the South Saskatchewan River on the north and the west, Munroe Avenue on the east, and Adelaide Street, Lorne Avenue and the city limits on the south.Population: 16,973
The boundaries changed slightly prior to the 2003 election and now include some polls previously in Saskatoon Eastview.
New Democrat Pat Atkinson won a fifth straight election in this constituency in 2003. She was first elected in 1986 and also won in 1991, 1995 and 1999. She has held many cabinet posts, and is currently serving as minister of finance, minister responsible for immigration, minister responsible for public service commission and minister responsible for SaskEnergy.
