By the time this notebook entry makes it onto the Web, the big leaders debate will be over. The political polls will be out there, and this provincial election will be into the home stretch. It will be very busy from here on in. So, I thought I would jot down some random thoughts collected over the last week or so. Who me, cynical? The other day I was at a media event in Regina where NDP leader Lorne Calvert met with a small group of seniors. When he was done speaking, there was a short question and answer session. The room was filled with NDP supporters and the questions were ridiculous. Things like, "Hey Mr. Calvert, how come you're so great?" That's obviously an exaggeration, but the so-called questions were simply open-ended invitations for Calvert to quote from the platform. I'm just not sure these sorts of media events really serve any purpose. One burning issue that has come up time and time again during this campaign is about that big green and white NDP motor-home. It's not "Hey Mr. Calvert do you fill that machine with ethanol blended gasoline?" No. Instead, reporters want to know if that massive RV has a nickname. So far, it does not. You know, a person can only listen to so much radio news. So I draw the line at about seven hours a day. So, as I've criss-crossed Saskatchewan the last couple of weeks, the CD player in the truck has become very important to maintaining my sanity. Top three road CDs so far this election campaign are as follows: 1. The Weakerthans: Reconstruction Site.
