Green Magic
This season’s journey started June 2nd:
“Rookie camp starts this Wednesday at 2:15pm on the Mosaic Stadium turf, followed by the real-deal this weekend; On Sunday June 7th at 8:15am the quest for 97th Grey Cup begins and I’ll be blogging about it from now until November 29th when our team looks to win their fourth Championship in team history.”
Sure, we really do expect our team to be in the Championship game every year, and maybe in Saskatchewan our dreams and expectations for our Roughriders are a little greater than most professional sports franchises. The fact of the matter, however, is that it’s November 29th, and I’m still blogging about our team as they look to win their fourth Championship in 99-years of history.
There isn’t much more I can say. This week has been one of the most incredible displays of Saskatchewan Pride that I’ve witnessed in my life, and come kick-off, myself, along with every one of you in Rider Nation will have even more to be proud of. This is a true Canadian team playing in Canada’s league.
I’ve waited for the right time to talk about what Stevie Baggs mentioned to me a couple of weeks ago before the Western Final because it gives me chills every time I talk about it. After one of the practices on Western Final week, Stevie came up to me and we talked about a bunch of things; these are the words I’ll never forget.
I talked him about how similar the aura surrounding the team when comparing them to 2007 is. With 26 of the guys still on the roster from that team, he went on to tell me that a lot of the guys from 2007 have mentioned the same thing. He went on to talk about green magic; from the fans, to the feeling in cities across Canada to all the love for Canada’s team, Stevie couldn’t say enough about fans of the Riders.
I then asked him if we’re going to win the Grey Cup. Stevie said:“This green magic is greater than any one of us… and if it’s will, and we’re supposed to do this, then nothing is going to stop us.”
RiderNation – let’s will this team to victory today.
