Canadian
Record Distributors
World Music Labels - Who is Distributed
by Whom in Canada
Most record stores will go out of
their way to help you find an album.
However, I have stood in record stores
wanting to buy an album that I know
is available but that can't be found
in the store's computer database.
Perhaps this has happened to you,
too. This list is intended to help
you when you go to your local record
store asking for a specific album
and the store clerk says "Sorry, I
have no idea where to get it". This
list does not include:
* single artist labels which may have
domestic distribution deals. Try Festival
and AVA first for music from independant
Canadian artists.
* indie labels which do their own
distribution. Try local indie stores,
buy the records from the stage or
in festival tents at live gigs, or
mail order from the artist(s). Indies
often have web pages, so surf!
* international labels which may be
carried in the big downtown stores
but are ordered directly from overseas
labels or distributors.
* THIS LIST IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE:
The world of music distribution is
a volatile one. Please tell me if
you know something that I don't about
any of these labels!
