January 3 - Roots in the Rafters concert

An encore presentation of the special Roots & Wings concert recorded last July in the barn at Glencolton Farms in Grey County. Three Canadian bands are featured: Maza Meze, who play Greek and Arabic music; the pan-African band Tikisa; and Afro-Colombian dance band Pacande.

January 10 - Sunfest concert

Recorded on the July long weekend in London, Ontario at the annual multi-culti music festival called Sunfest. This concert features concert recordings and interviews with 5 groups: Amampondo from South Africa; Montreal's gypsy string trio Djelem; Vancouver's Chinese ensemble Silk Road Music; reggae master Lazo from Toronto; and Cuba's 7-woman son group Las Perlas del Son.

January 17 - Highway One - Part One

A profile of Halifax-based gospel singer, African-Canadian historian and activist Delvina Bernard, one of the 4 voices in Canada's premier women's a capella group Four the Moment.

January 24 - Highway One - Part Two

Andrew Atagotaaluk is an Inuit accordion player who shares his unique Inuit, French and Celtic-influenced playing style, and tells stories of life on the land in Canada's far north.

January 31 - Highway One - Part Three

This week Walter Klymkiw introduces us to the stunning contemporary Ukranian choral music he and his singers make in Winnipeg.

February 7 - Highway One - Part Four

Qiu Xia He is the vibrant and engaging leader of Vancouver's Silk Road Music ensemble. She is a virtuoso player of the pipa, and also a wonderful teacher of Chinese traditional music and culture.

February 14 - Highway One - Part Five

From his home on Vancouver island, Ron Hamilton leads a drum ensemble that draws on the rhythms of the native peoples along the Pacific coast.

February 21 - Latin Beat - Cuba Part One

Broadcaster Guadalupe Jolicoeur will take you to the docks of Matanzas and the clubs of Havana to discover the roots of Cuban son in the first installment of The Latin Beat.

February 28 - Latin Beat - Cuba Part Two

Get ready to dance! This week, a look at contemporary salsa in Cuba, and a profile of Cuban ex-patriot Albita, who is now living and making her upbeat music in NYC.

March 7 - Latin Beat - Brazil Part One

Remember Carmen Miranda - the colourful singer who brought the tropics to Hollywood back in the 40's? This week you can find out more about the kind of music she sang - the samba, the heartbeat of Brazil.

March 14 - Latin Beat - Brazil Part Two

Back in the 1960s, popular music was changing all over the world. In Brazil, the samba was giving way to MPB - Musica Popular Brasileiro. This week you'll discover more about this fascinating musical movement and the personalities who made it all happen.

March 21 - This Is the Tango - Part One

The tango was once described as a collection of sad thoughts you can dance to. The music is filled with melancholy and desire. This week Guadalupe Jolicouer leads us to the birthplace of the tango to explore this most passionate music.

March 28 - This Is the Tango - Part Two

It's been 50 years since the golden age of the tango drove people to the dance floors of Paris and Buenos Aires. But this week you'll want to grab a long-stemmed rose because the music, the fashion, and the passion of the tango return.

April 4 - This Is the Tango - Part Three

The final episode of This Is the Tango is a survey of the tango's role in the 20th century, with a special focus on the music of the extraordinary composer Astor Piazzolla.

April 11 - Maria de Buenos Aires - Part One

A special concert presentation this week. Maria of Buenos Aires is a mysterious creature - she is part sinner, part saint. Maria de Buenos Aires is also the name of the tango operita composed by Astor Piazzolla as a rhapsody on the theme of Buenos Aires. He considered it his masterwork - listen to find out why.

April 18 - Maria de Buenos Aires - Part Two

SEE ABOVE - the conclusion of this rarely performed work, in a special concert presentation from Vancouver.
